Lee County Board of Commissioners.

LEESBURG, GA. -- Lee County commissioners are in the process of deciding how to divide funds generated from the new car tag tax. The funds are now dispersed into counties to make up for the loss of revenue coming in from the sales tax on new vehicles.
"Basically the way that we tried to do that is the exact way that SPLOST five was split. So basically we collect it in a different manner but split it the same way,” said Rick Muggridge, Lee County Commission Chair.
While county officials wait to decide on a solution on how they will divide the money, county residents say some of it may need to go towards paving dirt roads.
Margo Clayton lives on Old Leslie Road and she says recent rains have made driving nearly impossible.
“The roads become very dangerous to drive on. It's very slippery in certain spots. It does not have ditches for the water to run off and we've had this problem for a while,” said Margo Clayton.
Chairman Muggridge says they're monitoring all roads and doing what they can with the funds they have.
