ALBANY, GA. --

One of southwest Georgia’s educators is in the running to be the state of Georgia’s 'Teacher of the Year.'

Jeanine Wetherington of Colquitt County is one of 10 teachers competing for the title.

Finalists were chosen based on the strength of the essays they submitted to state officials.

In the next few weeks, Wetherington will travel to Macon to interview before a board and she will also have to submit a video of herself teaching a classroom.

“I'm just so blessed to be surrounded by quality teachers and administrators throughout my career and they’ve all influenced me greatly,” said Wetherington, “I’ve just been so blessed.”

She will find out in May whether or not she will be the ‘Teacher of the Year’ for 2014.
