ALBANY, GA -- Southwest Georgia Public Health officials say after an active flu season, flu cases are on the decline.

For FOX 31's Facebook story of the day, people wanted to know if the flu season was almost over.

Jackie Jenkins, the epidemiologist for public health, says although there are a small number of cases throughout the area, for the most part the most active part of flu season is over.

Jenkins states that numbers are down across the nation for flu diagnosis.

Although warm weather is ahead, officials stress that southwest Georgians should continue to take precautions to protect themselves against the virus.

“We've had increases as late as April and May so we will probably still see clustering of flu cases in some of our counties,” said Jackie Jenkins, Southwest Georgia Public Health Epidemiologist.

She says people should continue good hand hygiene, stay home if you're sick and seek medical help for serious symptoms.
