ALBANY, GA -- During their Tuesday morning meeting, the Albany City Commission voted to award the contract to build a new fire station for the Albany Fire Department to PDC Construction Inc. from Bainbridge.

The lump sum awarded to build the new station is $894,000, which will go towards replacing Fire Station #3 on Holly Drive.

Officials say that the station was built on an old limestone sinkhole that was filled with concrete. However, due to the shifting ground, cracks and damage are starting to occur to the building.

The new station will be built at the entrance to the fire training facility on Honeysuckle Drive.

Officials say that it will still be 30 to 40 days before the process begins.
