ALBANY, GA --
The Exchange Club of Albany, Albany Beverage and South Georgia Coon & Squirrel Hunters Association have come together for the 1st Annual AKC Southern Heritage Hunt & Show. The event will run Friday, January 25-26, 2013 at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds.

“We are thrilled to have AKC in town this weekend,” Rashelle Beasley, Albany Convention & Visitors Bureau Manager, said. “We are fortunate to have partnerships with local clubs that we can host events such as this one.”

The Hunt on Friday and Saturday is open to all coonhounds. Registration is $35. There will be ten placements awarded each night, eagle trophies awarded, all entrants receive a 1st Annual collectors pin, a custom embroidered Dan’s Southern Heritage jackets awarded to each night’s hunt winner, plus overall hunt and show winner. After Saturday nights hunt, the two high scoring dogs from each night will hunt for 1 hour to determine the overall winner, who will receive a $1,000 Final Prize Package. This hunt is a 2013 World Qualifying Hunt, meaning dogs that win a Cast Win from Friday or Saturday night will qualify for the World Championship (Final).

On Saturday, January 26, 2013 Dr. Frank Pierce will be on hand to judge the Dog Show. Show entries will start at 9 am, with the show at 11 am. Dogs earning an Open or Champion class win will qualify for the 2013 World Show.

Following the Dog Show on Saturday will be a Serama Chicken Show at 3 pm. The Serama is a new breed and was created within the last 15 year. Breed for their small size, this is one of the only chicken breeds that are shown table top and not in a cage.

All proceeds from this event will help in the prevention of child abuse.
