ALBANY, GA --
Lee County Commissioners spent their meeting Tuesday discussing the potential of letting residents know about a new motor vehicle tax.

Those residents that purchased a car in the year 2012 will be forced to pay a new tax on those vehicles.

The revised tax will go into effect March 1st, and will seemingly replace the former, "Birthday Tax," causing state and local taxes to no longer apply to buying a car.

"It's something they have to do, so we're going to spend a little extra money to make sure they understand their options," said Commissioner, Rick Muggridge.

Muggridge says he believes this new tax is a suitable replacement to the "Birthday Tax" and feels residents will see the benefits immediately.
