ALBANY, GA --
Darton State College’s Theatre Department has been chosen to host the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region IV in February.

The festival invites theatre students from colleges and universities around the southeast and the Caribbean to gather in Albany February 5th through 9th to celebrate the finest and most diverse work produced by theatre programs.

“Hosting the KCACTF will boost Darton State College’s profile, specifically our theatre program within the southeast region. The Festival will benefit the education of our students who will be participating in the workshops, performances, and making contacts in the entertainment industry; something we could not offer to all our students if the Festival were held elsewhere,” said Deborah Liss-Green, theatre program director.

Darton officials say in the release that they expect nearly 1,200 students and faculty will be visiting Albany, along with top industry professionals, including the artistic director of KCACTF, a Tony award-winning scenic designer, a Broadway choreographer and director, and a number of casting directors, actors and playwrights. The festival events, which are not open to the public, will beheld at Darton State College, the Municipal Auditorium, the Merry Acres Event Center, and other locations around Albany.

“Visitors to the festival will be staying in local hotels and spending their money at local businesses. I think this is not only a good opportunity for Darton, but also Albany, as it will have a positive economic impact on the community” says Liss-Green.

Region IV includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Southern Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The KCACTF is a national theatre program involving 18,000 students from colleges and universities nationwide. Regional festivals showcase the finest of each region’s entered productions and offer a variety of activities, including workshops, symposia, and region-level award programs.
