LEESBURG, GA -- Officials with the
Georgia Department of Transportation
, including director of planning Toby Carr, met with the Lee County Commission Thursday morning to talk about the transportation needs for the region.
During the discussion, three main projects emerged for the future of Lee County.
The first is the Leesburg North Bypass, a six million dollar project that was to be completed in 2013, but due to issues with approvals, is expected to be finished in 2014.
The second project is the $16 million Westover Road Extension Underpass connecting the Albany Mall. This project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase.
The third project is a traffic signal on US 82 on Hickory Grove and Oakland Parkway near the new conference center. This project is in the works, but planners are keeping an eye on it to see if it is needed.
Officials believe that all of these projects will open up avenues for businesses and development in the area.
