ALBANY, GA --

The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture partnered with Albany State University to host a day-long event on Saturday.

Folks from all over southwest Georgia brought artifacts with them and got the chance to sit down with experts who told them how to take care of and preserve them. People brought things such as books, pictures, and textiles with them that dated back to the beginning of the Civil Rights movement.

Event coordinators said this event was so important because many people in the area don't realize how special and valuable some of the things they have really are.
