ALBANY, GA -- A group of Republican state lawmakers from Georgia are asking Congress to repeal the 17th Amendment, which would end the direct election of United States Senators.

In our Facebook Story of the Day, we wanted to know what Southwest Georgians think about the possible end of senator elections?

The legislators asking for the switch say by ending the elections, the power would return to the state legislatures and would carry out the original intent of the constitution. They also say the resolution would make the entire process less corrupt by being carried out in the public eye, but some Southwest Georgians don't agree.

James Jackson says by taking away elections, he believes it will create a "buddy-buddy" system between legislators and possible candidates, making the entire system more corrupt.

Michael Richardson Jr. agrees saying it would take away the voice of the people and cause more corruption in who was put in office, which would affect many.

Kimberly Colemere says any time the voice of the people is taken away, it causes problems and it needs to stop. Colemere says it's reasons like this that cause people to say "Why vote? My vote doesn't count" and it needs to stop.
