TIFTON, GA. --

Tifton had a successful year of business growth in 2012 and during Thursday’s Annual Meeting and Banquet the Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce awarded those who helped make the year a success.

Chamber Chairman Randy Clements passed the baton to Incoming Chair Wanda Moore. Moore was also named ‘Prince Business Woman of the Year’.

“We hope to increase jobs again and we're looking at some things that are in the making. Hopefully within the next month or so there will be some announcements,” says Wanda Moore, 2013 Tifton-Tift County Chamber of Commerce Chair.

In 2012 more than 1,000 jobs were created as more business came into the area. Chamber members say the job creation span all sectors including industrial, manufacturing, retail, and commercial.

Dr. David Bridges, President of the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, has been named as the ‘John Hunt Entrepreneur of the Year’ for his efforts in preparing students to fill incoming jobs. Bridges has recently expanded several departments within the college.

He says the award comes as a shock since he doesn’t consider himself an entrepreneur.

“It was a surprise and while I hadn't thought of myself as an entrepreneur, I suppose in some respect leadership of an educational institution probably does qualify in some ways,” said Dr. David Bridges, ABAC President.

As 2013 shifts into full gear, chamber members are hoping the momentum from 2012 drives the city forward.
