ALBANY, GA -- An apartment off Gordon Avenue caught fire late Wednesday, with flames engulfing majority of the home.

Albany Fire crews were on scene quickly after the fire started and had the blaze under control within 20 minutes.

Early reports are that the fire started in the kitchen; however no official cause has been identified.

"All the occupants had gotten out, the damage is pretty severe to the apartment, and the Red Cross was called for the occupants and are providing them shelter," said Albany Fire Captain, Ken Turner.

Albany fire officials credited the family with their awareness to get out of the home, and encourage everyone to plot out similar plans should this kind of incident happen to you.
