ALBANY, GA --
People braved the chilly temperature Friday morning to attend the health initiative"Chefs Cn The Lawn", out front of the government center in Albany.

A partnership between the Dougherty County School System, Phoebe Putney, and the mayor's office brought chefs out to prepare healthy, locally grown food. This initiative is meant to raise diabetes awareness and promote a healthy life style amongst the youth.

Albany's Mayor, Dorothy Hubbard, said, "In some of the other health care initiatives that we've done, when we talk to the children about it, they would go home and say, mother, father don't eat this or don't eat that, that's not good for us, and so that's why it's really important for us to target the children."

Organizers say when students and teachers are healthy, is when the education system works the best.
