ALBANY, GA. -- During Monday night’s school board meeting, board members and community leaders said their goodbyes to Dr. Joshua Murfree. It was the last time that Dr. Murfree would serve as superintendent at a Dougherty County Board of Education meeting.
Before starting the meeting, Dr. Murfree gave recommendations and advice for the future of the school system.
After an hour long executive session, board members approved a program manager for the ‘Race to the Top’ program.
Also during the meeting, Dougherty County School System Finance Director Kenneth Dyer brought forth a financial report with an update about the school system's financial situation with the state. He says although thousands have not been reimbursed to the board, the school system is currently still in good financial condition.
School officials are hoping the school system's reimbursement issues will be resolved in January and there won't be any cash flow problems.
Also during the school board meeting, Sunbelt Ford provided a $2,900 check to Martin Luther King Elementary School for participating in a promotional program.
“We plan to use it for instructional material for Martin Luther King,” said David Adams, Interim Principal at Martin Luther King Elementary.
