Dougherty County School Board votes to release Murfree from contract

In a 4 to 3 vote, the Dougherty County School Board has voted to release Dougherty County School Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree from his contract.  / File

ALBANY, GA -- Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree and the Dougherty County school board will be parting ways.

Both sides have agreed to terms that will end Murfree's contract on December 18th of this year.

He will be paid for the remainder of the contract which was set to expire June 2nd of 2013.

The board voted 4-3 in favor of the agreement that alleviates both sides from fault.

"I wish the superintendent well, I know he's a great guy and I know he's got a great future ahead of him," said Dougherty County School Board Member, Darrel Ealum.

The board has yet to say who will be replacing Dr. Murfree.
