ALBANY, GA. -- Authorities with Albany's branch of the Department of Natural Resources say they're encountering more alligators in Albany, but there's no reason to worry.

The gators spotted around town are considered a non-nuisance, meaning they're familiar with people and are only looking for a place to rest.

Due to the drought and abnormally warm weather this fall, the animals are being forced to migrate for water and food.

A 9-foot-long alligator was found on Monday and officials picked up a five-footer on Tuesday.

“Most of them are relocated to larger bodies of water and released,” stated Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Technician Brian Vickery.

Anyone who spots an alligator is asked to contact the department of natural resources immediately.
