ALBANY, GA. --

During Tuesday night's Lee County Board of Commissioners meeting board members approved a grant application for the Lee County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.

If approved by GEMA, the grant would provide employees with more than $7,300 dollars for equipment to store animals during natural disasters.

Kyle Lentz, Lee County’s CERT Coordinator, said if the money is awarded he would purchase collapsible wire kennels to store animals during emergencies. The devices won't only be used in Lee County but other areas facing natural emergencies.

While commissioners helped out the CERT team, they also went over funds for the county's libraries.

“Every time someone gets a permit to build a house there is about an $800 dollar impact fee half of that goes to recreation and half goes to the library,” said Ed Duffy.

The Capital Improvement Element report notified commissioners that more than $43,000 dollars have been collected for libraries and more $50,000 is set aside for recreational use.
