Updated with video; Search engines can think for you, psychologist says
ALBANY, GA -- For today’s Facebook Story of the Day you wanted to know how the popular search engine Google can affect your memory.
Diane Cerjan, a psychologist at the Renaissance Centre in Albany, said technology sometimes thinks for us, and that is a problem. “I do think technology does do some thinking for folks which has been a concern I think in our practice that people aren't using their critical thinking skills as we might have when we were doing research say when I was younger and you had to look things up in the encyclopedia.”
She said that although technology assists people, people ultimately have to think for themselves to find what they are looking for.
