ALBANY, GA --

Many towns, around Southwest Georgia, are holding Veteran’s Day celebrations this weekend.

The fifth annual Salute to Veterans celebration was held today at the Albany Civic center Veteran’s Park. Following a ceremony, a motorcade left the park for the V-F-W, where a silent auction was held to benefit the “Purple hearts outdoor Tour”

"They bring in special opts people and people who have been wonder in action and they bring them down here to the Albany area and put them up in the plantations and they go hunting," explains Paul Murry the Chairman SWGA Veterans Coalition.

Veteran celebrations were also being held in Andersonville honoring prisoner's of war.

Jon Curry, who's father spent 33-months as a Korean POW, says remember these heroes is of vital importance.

"Well I think it's important that we remember what they went through, they made tremendous sacrifices on behalf of their country. Thousands, tens of thousands, never returned," said Curry.

The celebrations will continue through tomorrow honoring those veterans still living, and those that have passed away.
