LEE COUNTY, GA --
A routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 19 in Lee County turned into a drug bust Monday evening.

Officials with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office say that around 6 PM, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Cobalt in the 900 block of Highway U.S. 19 South.

Deputies say that when they asked the driver, 23-year-old Jakob Hanes, for his insurance card, he opened his glove compartment to retrieve it. The deputy observed a large plastic bag of a green leafy substance.

Hanes attempted to grab the green leafy substance and the deputy grabbed his hand and asked his backup officer for assistance.

Authorities say that the backup officer not aware of what was going on at the time, pulled his service weapon out and started giving loud verbal commands, and both Hanes and his passenger, Quantavious Lowe, were both arrested without incident.

Hanes has been charged with failure to signal while changing lanes, possession Of marijuana less than an ounce, driving while unlicensed, and driving with suspended registration while Lowe was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
