ALBANY, GA --
Around 30 girls ages 6 through 18 participated in Girls Inc. of Albany's annual Black History Month Celebration titled "Past, Present, and Future" on Thursday evening.
The event included girls reciting poems, dancing to African songs and a Girls Inc. Choir performance.
Executive Director Sherrell Alexander says the office held the event as a way to teach the girls in the program about diversity and appreciating others, which they can do through embracing all cultures.
Organizers say the celebration is meant to inspire the girls to be smart, strong and bold and they can do that by learning about each other and the cultures that both unite us and make us unique.
