ALBANY, GA -- The Governor's Office of Highway Safety released a report this morning focusing on teenage driving fatalities, specifically for 16 and 17-year-olds.

National numbers are expected to increase, however officials say in Georgia fatal accidents for teen drivers actually went down from 2011 to 2012.

There may not be much time to dwell on those numbers though, considering the next few months are the most dangerous for teenagers to be on the road.

"We lose too many drivers, entering a time of year when we lose the most drivers. With prom, graduation, and summer coming up, this is the time we need to step up our efforts more than ever," said Office of Highway Safety Director, Harris Blackwood.

Most counties in Southwest Georgia averaged one teen traffic fatality in the past year.
