ALBANY, GA --
Two stray dogs are dead and an investigation is underway after Ronald and Angela Ponder say two teens reportedly threw the strays over their fence and into the backyard of their two dogs.

Ronald says his dogs, Brandy and Bojack are normally friendly and love to play, but they just had a litter of seven puppies and are extremely protective of their babies around dogs they don't know.

The Ponder home sits on Dorsett Avenue, in front of an alleyway. The couple says when they came home on Monday and found a dead dog inside, they couldn't figure out how it got there.

Angela soon found out on Tuesday evening after the dogs were being especially loud. When she went to go look, Angela says she saw two teens dropping another stray dog over the fence. By the time she got outside, it was too late.

Ronald says he wants to get the word out that American Pitbull Terriers are not vicious if raised correctly and his were only doing their duty as new parents.

Angela says she cried when she realized what happened but doesn't blame her dogs who were just trying to protect the eight-week-old pups.

The couple reported the incident to the Albany Police Department who has opened an investigation and is looking for the people responsible.

If caught, the suspects will face animal cruelty charges.
