ALBANY, GA --
The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium was held Thursday morning at Phoebe Northwest.

The Consortium is an eight hour course certified by the United States Department of Homeland Security.

The class is intended to prepare first responders for mass fatality catastrophic disasters, especially those in rural areas.

The course not only taught responders what steps to take when dealing with these types of disasters, it also taught them how to look for and use outside resources they might have overlooked.

Michael Fowler, the Dougherty County Coroner, said even though he has been through these kinds of events and has real life training, it's still important to go to these training classes to refresh his memory.

Fowler also said these classes are important because they always teach you a new, and sometimes better, way to do things.
