December is National Impaired Driving Prevention month and one Tifton driving school is raising awareness by giving back to the community.

Premier Drivers Academy tries to spread the message that impaired driving affects the entire family and can cause many consequences. Director LaShawne Graham says most people don't realize impaired driving includes those who are on medicine, which is quite common during the month of December.

In order to raise awareness of the month, the school decided to donate coats to a county commissioner's coat drive and toys to foster children.

Graham says children follow in the footsteps of adults so they wanted to provide good examples to local youth by giving back.

Tift County Commissioner Melissa Chevers says receiving 72 coats for her drive puts her over her goal of 500 costs and also sets the stage with children of how to act and give back.

Chevers and Graham hope by showing younger children how to prioritize and give back, they'll stray away from things like drinking and driving.
