ALBANY, GA -- Tree sales over the holiday weekend soared for looking tree lots around Dougherty County.

With an extra week to sell off their stock, local tree salesmen say they saw throngs of paying customers coming in to get their Christmas trees.

"We were a little nervous about the extra week on the calendar this year, but it all worked out, people were buying trees," said a local tree salesman.

But the Albany Fire Department is cautioning local citizens to be cautious with trees inside your home. A couple helpful tips ranged from keeping the trees hydrated so they don't dry out, and also to keep them safely away from space-heaters or fire places.

Either way, a Christmas tree in your home and a major safety effort can make all your Christmas be bright.
