ALBANY, GA --
Demolition has started for the Broad Avenue Bridge in downtown Albany.

Construction crews are on site dismantling the unused structure.

They began deconstructing the southwest section of the bridge while working on the base of the structure.

The Broad Avenue bridge was once the main artery in the city for people wishing to cross the Flint River.

Officials say PCL construction crews have had a few setbacks while working on the site, but the bridge is expected to be completely down within a few months.

“They started demolition yesterday and according to their schedule we anticipate that it's going to take four months for them to complete demolition of the existing bridge,” says Bruce Maples, Albany Engineering Director.

PCL Civil Constructors out of Tampa, Florida were awarded the contract back in May.
