ALBANY, GA --
The Albany Salvation Army building may not be your typical dojo, but you would not think this is your typical night at the Salvation Army either; but it is all thanks in part to Major Kelly English's twenty plus years of experience and his want to help kids.

English says that "what we see is there is a great bit of focus. I have to say earlier classes were a bit chaotic; you will notice classes had a lot more order which means the students have caught on to the feel".

Major English helps bring the kids into a feeling that they are apart of something unique that helps them in their everyday life and that they will always have with them for discipline, success and inspiration. Kelly adds that martial arts inspires him as he always wanted to be a karate kid ever since I was little.

Some of the kids see it as inspiration others like it for the benefit of exercise. "He teaches you good exercises to do at home and at school' said one of the students attending classes.

Major English says that it was people like himself, along with martial arts, that helped instill him with a foundation for success at an early age and even led his pursuit of several black belts in different martial arts, that he loves to put on display for kids in the Albany area all for a great cause.

"We know that when they leave here they are going to take this home with them and they are going to take it into any situation they may be in, whether its in school, if they are doing homework or what have you, that's a great fight right there. To sit down and to do it and over come it is an excellent thing with excellent results".

Major English leads the martial arts class Tuesday nights at 6 PM at the Salvation Army in Albany and it is open to anyone who wishes to take part.
