ALBANY, GA -- The annual "Town Hall Meeting" was held today with City Attorney, Nathan Davis, addressing the public.
The meeting revolved around Georgia's Open Records and Open Meetings Act which has been revised in the last year. Davis wanted to allow citizens the opportunity to know what their rights include.
Two of the major changes is minutes will be kept of executive sessions now, allowing the public a better understanding of what is going on inside. Also Davis commented on the ability for commissioners to attend meetings via teleconference. This feature will allow all opinions to be heard, regardless of where in the world commissioners happen to be.
"Make them aware to the recent changes to the open meetings and open records law. Trying to just bring it out for discussion, and maybe it will lead to some questions later, and just make everyone aware of what's available to them as members of the public," said Davis.
The next scheduled Town Hall meeting is scheduled for November 17th 2012, at 1721 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.
