SYLVESTER, GA -- First Updat (10/16/12) Sylvester Police say that in the news release issued yesterday, there was an error and that the microwave was not plugged in.
Officers say that the capacitor in the microwave can hold 4000 volts and remain charged hours and possibly even after days after being unplugged.
The ruling on the case has not been changed.
Initial Story (10/15/12)
A Sylvester man died on Saturday after attempting to repair a microwave.
Officers with the Sylvester Police Department say they were dispatched to the residence on West Pinson Street in reference to a subject that had been electrocuted.
Upon arrival, officers say they found 25-year-old Jimmy Lee Roddy lying unresponsive in a bedroom. Officers began CPR on the individual until Worth County EMS arrived.
Roddy was transported to the Phoebe Worth hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Officers say Roddy was working on a microwave in the kitchen area of the residence that was still plugged in. Roddy's sister heard a loud pop sound and her brother walked into the room stating that he shocked himself before collapsing.
The case has been ruled an accidental electrocution.
