Bells are sounding from coast to coast in honor of the 2nd Annual Bells Across America and National Fallen Firefighters Weekend.

October 6th and 7th were set aside as a time to honor those who died in the line of duty in 2011.

The National Fire Academy in Maryland held a ceremony Sunday afternoon in honor of the 85 men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice before adding their names to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial wall on the academy’s campus.

During the service, family members of the fallen firefighters received flags that were flown over the U.S. Capitol and the memorial site.
