Dougherty County Board of Commissioners accepts Chief Don Cheek's letter of resignation.  / Matt Prichard

ALBANY, GA -- The Dougherty County Board of Commissioners met Monday to discuss several issues including next years' budget. Chief of Dougherty County Police, Don Cheek said the plan is to keep spending low.

"Looking for any possible ways to cut expenditures, cut operational costs, and actually look to create funds, and generate revenues," said Chief Cheek.

The Board also formally accepted Chief Cheek's letter of retirement, naming his Deputy Sherriff, Jackie Battle as interim Chief.
