Family and friends gathered in front of the main public library on Pine Avenue to release balloons in honor of Ashley Moore.

The director the Dougherty County Public Library passed away earlier this week.

As the balloons were released, they twisted around the flagpole in front of the library. Some saw it as a sign of Ashley’s presence.

“I think Dr. Craft hit the nail on the head when the balloons went up and got stuck on the flagpole cause Ashley’s going to be in that building for a long time. She's not going anywhere,” said Phil Cannon.

Ashley’s fiancé says it's been tough over the last few days.

“The hardest thing for me is the whole idea of thinking that you're going to be somewhere in five and ten years and just all of a sudden in a split second, that isn’t going to happen,” said Phil Cannon.

Cannon is leaning on family and friends to overcome the grief. As they all gathered for a vigil in her name, her stepson says he'll always remember the good times.

“I enjoyed coming home to her smiling face every time I came home from college,” said John Cannon.

For coworkers, it was Moore’s dedication that made her shine as director of the library.

“She brought this library up to the 21st century with new technology more than just checking out books,” said Gloria Gadson.

Others agree with that sentiment.

“She put her all into the library and with her loss, it's real hurtful,” said Tyler Hale.

He believes the a loss of Ashley Moore is a pain that’s is felt everywhere.
