ALBANY, GA -- The
Economic Development Commission
is working to make Albany and Dougherty County a premiere location for businesses.
EDC
President Ted Clem made a presentation to the Dougherty County Commission Monday.
In that presentation, it was announced that in the last year there have been 478 jobs created in the area. That's primarily due to the new Olive Garden and the Teleperformance call center in the Albany Publix shopping center.
In their
five year strategic plan
, the EDC will stress the three R's = Recruitment, Retention and Renewal. To accomplish that, they will work to better brand and market the area to potential businesses.
During their strategic planning meetings, it was realized that a negative that businesses might see about the area is racial and socio-economic issues. The EDC plans to promote racial healing. The group's next step will be creating a framework for their strategic plan and presenting it to the community.
