ALBANY, GA -- Albany State University's Early Learning Center has earned national accreditation.

At a breakfast ceremony at ASU Monday attended by children and their guardians, Congressman Sanford Bishop congratulated staff on earning the National Accreditation for the Education of Young Children. ASU is one of eight programs in the nation to receive the honor. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by the organization, a number that represents approximately only 8 percent of all preschools and other early childhood programs.

In order to receive accreditation, the program passed an extensive evaluation that measured the program and its services against ten NAEYC program standards and more than 400 related accreditation criteria and included announced and unannounced visits by assessors over a period of five years.
