Health Department ready for the start of flu season

ALBANY, GA -- Labor Day is officially over and that means it's the start of flu season.The Dougherty County Health Department began offering flu vaccinations and nasal sprays Tuesday as a way to combat the season of sickness.

Alice Rodman, an employee giving the vaccinations, said the nasal shot is more kid-friendly to those afraid of needles. Rodman says by protecting both children and adults, the health department can ensure parents stay in work and children stay in school.

One local man who made sure he got the shot as early as possible, Raymundo Viramontez, says he has been getting vaccinated for years and he has not had the flu since he started getting it. Viramontez says he believes his experience has proven that it works.

The shots and nasal sprays are offered throughout the season for only $25.
