ALBANY, GA -- Officials from multiple police agencies, the Dougherty County District Attorney's Office, and the Dougherty County School System held a joint press conference Friday morning to address recent crime and taking back the community.
Albany Police Chief John Proctor says that they are on high alert in the next few days. Proctor also said "don't be afraid, be alert. If you see something, say something" and encouraged people to answer the call when they need jurors and grand jurors. He wants to help take back the community.
Dougherty County Superintendent Dr. Joshua Murfree wants to ease the mind of concerned parents. This is an opportunity to do what's right. Working with law to make sure students are safe." He further stressed that Code Red is something to keep students inside of the building and everyone else out.
Dougherty County School Police Chief Troy Conley said there would be a police presence at the local high school football games to make sure that everyone has a safe and fun time.
Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards says the penalty for gang participation is 5 to 15 years and that gang related crimes carry extra penalties so think before you join.
