Dougherty County Jail
JACKSON, GA -- An Albany man imprisoned at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification prison has died after being thrown off the second floor of a prison dormitory last week.
According to a press release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged 5 inmates at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia with the armed robbery and murder of fellow inmate,
Laderick Cornellius Chappel
, 33, Albany, Ga. The inmates charged were 21-year-old William Woodrow Wells of Louisville, 27-year-old Dante Ray Myles of Covington, 23-year-old Niko Lamar Swann of Atlanta, 19-year-old Demarcus D. Crew of Elberton, and 27-year-old Justin O’neal Clinkscales of Hartwell, Ga.
The GBI says the inmates were charged as a result of an investigation conducted by agents of the GBI Milledgeville Regional Office and prison officials early Friday morning after Chappel was thrown to his death from the second floor of a prison dormitory. An autopsy was conducted Friday morning at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur indicating Chappel died from the blunt force trauma caused by the fall.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Chappel was in prison for a 2010 Dougherty County
murder
and was given a life without a chance of parole sentence.
