ALBANY,GA --
The American Red Cross stopped by the FOX 31 studios earlier Tuesday to give folks the opportunity to donate blood.

Right now, the Red Cross is down 50,000 units from where they should be this time of the year.

They'd like all blood types to donate, but especially type "O" negative because it's a universal blood type that any person can take.

“Sometimes, in emergency situations, the doctor may not have a chance or have time to check someone's blood type so therefore if we have a type "O" they can use it,” says Blood Donor Recruiter Shea Register.

It takes about 40 minutes for the entire process, which includes answering questions about your health history, but only 8 minutes to donate one pint of blood.
