ALBANY, GA -- Municipal Court Judge Willie Weaver has received a reprimand from the State of Georgia's Judicial Qualifications Commission.

In a filing with the Georgia Supreme Court on July 18th, the private reprimand is the result of the May 2011 arrest of Weaver for allegedly engaging in a physical altercation with his wife. Weaver's charges were dismissed based upon his pre-trial diversion agreement to attend marital and stress counseling.

In the filing, the Commission says they "attempted to balance its responsibility to the public to insure an honorable and independent judiciary with its responsibility to deal fairly with a judge who understands that while the criminal charge was dismissed, the event, and the publicity which followed it, brought discredit upon the judge and the judicial system. The Commission concludes that this agreed-upon disposition is fair and just for all concerned."
