ATLANTA, GA -- The Georgia Department of Education has confirmed that they are freezing Title I funds for Dougherty County schools.

In an email received from the Georgia Department of Education Communications office, they state the reasons for the fund freeze being in non-compliance with School Improvement Grant and Race to the Top regulations and because of the ongoing investigation into the free and reduced lunch program.

They say that the freeze will affect about $18 million dollars.

For more information on what Title I funds are, visit the U.S. Department of Education's website.
