ALBANY, GA --
The families of those injured in July 2012 wreck with an Albany police officer have retained a lawyer.

In an email sent from Randy Turner of Turner & Ross, LLC, Turner stated that "[they] have been retained to represent the Kennard and Nix families and we are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision.  However, based on what we already know, it is clear that the involved police officer should not have been permitted to operate a police department vehicle, which needlessly compromised the public safety, and resulted in the multiple injuries sustained by these minor children and young adults."

According to police records released after the wreck, officer Gary Price was driving a police vehicle south on Jefferson Street with his lights on responding to a call. The report states he ran a red light turning right onto Whitney Ave, and struck the Ford F-150 driven by 22-year-old Dmitria Kennard. Price attempted to swerve to the right to try to avoid a collision. The Ford, however, spun clockwise and rolled over on its top. Kennard had five children in the car with her. No one was ejected from either vehicle. Kennard and one child were trapped inside and had to be extricated.
