ALBANY, GA --
Albany State University held the second of three new student orientations Thursday morning.

The program, called SOAR, stands for Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration and will run until Saturday.

SOAR is a way for incoming and transfer students to learn information about all areas of the campus from the dining hall to course studies.

Around 100 students came out for the first orientation and 300 students were present today which ASU says is around average.

SOAR coordinators say it is too early to tell whether or not numbers are down from last year but employees are looking to see whether or not the changes to financial aid and the Pell Grant will affect registration.

"We're watching it really closely to see if that's going to impact our numbers this year but right now it's a little too early for us to really see the impact of that," said SOAR Program Coordinator, Sherrell Alexander.

Coordinators also say the third orientation is usually the biggest and will show if this year's numbers are up or down from previous orientations.
