ALBANY, GA --

Dr. Kay Kirkman, Chairman of the Albany Tree Board, will present Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful’s (KADB) coveted Tree Stewardship Award to the East Albany Wal-Mart store on July 9th at 10:00 a.m.  The award is given annually to a local business, individual or organization in recognition of outstanding contributions to protect, preserve and enhance the urban tree canopy of Albany and Dougherty County.  The award will be presented to Andy Carter, Store Manager.

KADB Director, Judy Bowles stated that “the importance of urban greenspace is a quality of life issue.  Trees beautify our surroundings, purify our air, act as sound barriers, manufacture oxygen and help us save energy through their cooling shade in summer and wind reduction in winter.  Trees benefit us socially, environmentally and economically.  The presence of well maintained trees in an urban setting reflects the community’s commitment to maintaining a healthy, vital place to reside, work and play, and to provide a greenspace legacy for future generations.”
