ALBANY, GA --

With the summer months among us, many people are taking to the waterways for some fun in the sun.

In the Facebook story of the day you wanted to know how to stay safe during a lightning storm while on a pond, lake, or ocean.

The absolute best thing to do if caught in this situation is to get off the water and into a car

If it's not possible to get off your boat, FOX 31's Chief Meteorologist Mike Morrison says, "(if) your not in a boat with a cabin, the best thing to do is get as low as possible, lay on the deck and if possible drop your anchor, but that only slightly reduces your risk from lightning.

It's also a good idea to check the weather before you head out on the water.
