ALBANY, GA -- The Albany Fire Department responded to 1208 Maryland Drive this morning where there was a report of a structure fire.
The team found heavy smoke coming from a lower-level apartment and made entry shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The residents had no electricity in the home and used candles for light - which the department believes is the cause of the fire - but everyone got out okay.
"Everybody got out fine, there's no injuries. I understand it was a family of four living there, they have been displaced and we're in the process of contacting Red Cross now to see if we can get them some assistance,” said Battalion Chief Kelly Harcrow.
Harcrow says there is significant smoke damage to the residence but it was contained to the one apartment.
Although the department believes the candle was the cause of the fire, they are investigating the incident further just to be sure.
