ALBANY, GA --
The trip to work might include a few detours this week as road maintenance and upgrades happen across the area.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will begin construction on the shoulder of U.S. 82 and State Route 520 in Dougherty County Monday morning.

The work will last from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. every day until June 21st.

During this time, one of the lanes may be closed with a flagman directing traffic.

GDOT says there have been 57 workers killed in the past 30 years due to drivers failing to slow down around work zones and asks that the public use caution when taking these routes.

Dougherty County Public Works is also closing down a portion of roadway between the Georgia-Florida railroad and Percy Hatcher Road to replace storm drainage pipes.

A detour route will be provided around the site using Percy Hatcher Road and Nelms Road. This is expected to last about two weeks.
