ALBANY, GA. --
In Tuesday's Facebook story of the day, people wanted to know if a law exists that requires people to restrain pets while in a moving vehicle.

The reason for that question is because it is against the law in New Jersey!

Georgia law enforcement officials say it's not against the law here, but there's a catch.

“If you’re riding down the road and the officer feels like you're getting distracted by the animal that may be in the vehicle with you, you could definitely be stopped and given a ticket or warnings for having the animal distract you” says Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

New Jersey is the first state to add an animal cruelty violation to drivers who don't comply with animal restraint laws.
