ALBANY, GA --
Leaders of the city of Albany, Dougherty County, Dougherty County Jail and other organizations came together to hear how they might be able to reduce costs.

They attended a meeting Tuesday morning about performance contracting--a procurement tool that enables the use of future energy savings to pay for energy-saving projects today.

The city manager and the county administrator both say it may be too late to see any real results this year, but is definitely something to look into.

“But it's certainly something we have to do for long term cause we can't think just short term, that's one of our problems, that's the reason we're in the place we're in today,” says City Manager James Taylor.

“Even though we've been really proactive, due to SPLOST, we've been able to do a lot of energy conservation and retrofitting and that, but there's always more you can do,” says Dougherty County Administrator Richard Crowdis.

The city and county will have to approve a budget by July first.
