ALBANY, GA --
In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know what checks and balances are in place for a trend of improper actions by a police officer.

Fox 31 spoke to the Albany Police Department who says a complaint will go to the officer's supervisor first and if further investigation is necessary, it is turned over to internal affairs - but all complaints are taken seriously.

"We want to make sure that we don't have any officers acting not in accordance with policy, for one, and that if there is something warranted that needs to be investigated or make the department better, then we want to make sure that the problem is identified," said Sergeant Antonio Fletcher of the Albany Police Department’s Internal Affairs.

Officials say if the infraction is proven true, the officer is given a chance to explain his or herself before the investigation is turned over to the police chief for a final decision.
